The Ted Rogers Management Conference 2012 Committee would like to thank everyone who attended, participated and supported this event. Thank you to our generous sponsors who helped make the conference possible and for allowing us to continue to be one of the most innovative and prestigious student-run conferences in Canada. A special thank you to our knowledgable and insightful speakers who took time out of their busy lives to share their stories, their Inner Drives, and for motivating us to do what we love and strive to achieve our best. Also not to mention our event partners and our wonderful photographers and videographer who have documented the conference this past weekend. To our delegates, We cannot thank you enough for attending. Your applications have demonstrated the amount of sharp, ambitious and talented business students that reside in Canada. Thank you for making this event filled with spirit, laughs, lifelong friendships, and for a great time! This year’s theme centred around your Inner Drive, remembering the importance of your I.D and the impact it has on shaping your future. We hope that you were able to take the advice of our speakers and work towards how you’ll leverage your I.D to transform your personal and professional life starting NOW in your undergraduate career. If you haven’t yet answered the question “What’s your I.D.?”, it is never too late to find your passion, drive or even pick up the complicated pieces that make up our lives and mould them into something better and stronger. Follow your instincts, take the risk and along with your I.D., don’t forget about the emotional drive which is the fuel behind all of what you do! “If my dad had lived a normal lifespan, I am sure I would not have had that emotional drive. And just driving to make money is not nearly as strong as an emotional drive. This is proven time and again. If your drive is simply to make money, it peters out after a while. It is not sustainable like an emotional drive. – The Late Ted Rogers, GLOBE AND MAIL We hope that you all had a chance to network with each other and with some of the industry professionals. We heard that some of you have follow-up meetings with some of those professionals! We showed you the diversity found at Ryerson through our Multicultural Expo, you learned about the Ted Rogers School of Management’s work in Dago, Kenya and you had the chance to showcase some of your ideas through the case competition. Once again, congratulations to the winning teams! The night events and gala with all of you were nothing short of amazing and the energy was incredible! We would also like to congratulate our TRMC I.D. Challenge winners, early bird registration ticket winners, best dressed Geek and Geekette, and raffle winners! A very BIG thank you to all of you who participated in the silent auction. Together we raised $10,000 for the Herbie Fund. Please write to us, find the committee members and delegates on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn through TRMC Connect. Post your pics and stories in the “I went to TRMC12” group. We would love to see all of you back at TRMC’13. Best wishes and congratulations to all those who are graduating this year! -TRMC’12 Committee

The past few weeks have simply flown by and today is the day before the third annual Ted Rogers Management Conference takes place. The TRMC 2012 Committee is very excited to meet all of the delegates from across Canada, as well as our established industry speakers and guests. We believe there is good reason for everyone to share in this excitement, which our delegates received a sample of with TRMC Connect (we can tell you we have more in store!) With that being said, the TRMC Committee would like to wish all delegates safe travels here to Toronto, and if there are any inquiries or comments, please contact us at info@ryersontrmc.ca.
We are very pleased to announce our partnership with The Herbie Fund. The Herbie Fund works worldwide to ensure that children receive the desired medical attention they require. Medical expenditures are very costly and many families around the world do not have the available income to ensure that their children receive the medical care that is necessary. The Herbie Fund works in partnership with Sick Kids Hospital to ensure that quality medical care service is provided. As of this moment through donor support, more than 671 children from 101 countries have received specialized surgical assistance. Thanks to the Herbie Fund, hundreds of children are leading full, healthier, and more productive lives. Each year The Herbie Fund receives a handful of applications that they cannot meet due to the lack of funding. However, a great deal of effort is being put into raising awareness of this organizations effort. If you wish to make a donation to The Herbie Fund, you can do so here: http://www.herbiefund.com/waysToDonate.asp. To read more about The Herbie Fund and how they have affected the lives of children view The Herbie Fund Partnership page on our website.

When it comes to who we are, the majority of us find that we end up conforming to the standards of society. Is it really fun to simply run with the crowd? Our inner drive makes us who we are and why should we work to hide it just because society does not think it is “normal”. Who actually develops the standards for what constitutes as “normal” anyways? Do not let society stop you from unleashing you inner drive! Be unique, go against what the status quo thinks and develop an identity for yourself that truly demonstrates your individuality. Being unique and being weird should not hinder you from reaching your potential, ALLOW IT TO BE YOUR INNER DRIVE! Author Seth Godin has recently introduced a book called “We Are All Weird:The Myth of Mass and the End of Compliance” in which he discusses the matter of not conforming to societies expectations. I would encourage you all to check out his book, it is a real eye opener! Remember to join us at the 7th floor kiosk of the Ted Rogers School of Business Management building every Tuesday and Thursday in January as we will be showcasing the many events to be taking place at the conference. DON’T FORGET to take part in our video CHALLENGE!! We would like all delegates to send us a video in which you display your inner drive. By doing so, you have a chance of winning a FREE ticket to the conference. Contest rules are listed here: http://ryersontrmc.ca/about-trmc/videochallenge/. Create your video NOW as the contest deadline is January 20th 2012 at midnight. From the entire TRMC committee we encourage you all to be weird and wacky- to represent yourself regardless of what others may think of you. “We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.” – Dr. Seuss

Wealth can have a significant impact on the decisions made by individuals on a daily basis. A million dollars can definitely buy you the luxury goods that you desire but will that really keep you satisfied? Billionaire Bill Gates strives to help humanity by actively donating a great deal of his wealth in order to sustain health and development projects across the world. Gates realizes that “a billion gives you economic, social and political leverage, should you care to exploit it”. Gates established a foundation for philanthropy back in 1994. As his passion for humanity grew he worked to exploit the benefits received from donating one’s wealth to notable causes. As a result of his passion he has gained the support of many people in society. Gates has come to realize that he has the tools to make a significant impact on the world. His passion for humanity demonstrates his thriving inner drive. Motivation can stem from any area of our lives and it varies from person to person. Sometimes it can be hard to find that inner drive but the moment it comes into sight you begin to soar. You will reach new heights you thought were never possible. In the video below motivational speaker, Tony Robbins explains “why we do what we do and what drives individuals in their life today”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpc-t-Uwv1I. Take a look at the video! We want to know what keeps you going! What shapes the actions that you make on a day-to-day basis? During the month of January join us at the 7th floor kiosk of the Ted Rogers School of Business Management for TRMC Tuesdays! Each week we will be showcasing mini events that will be taking place at the conference. Come out and join the FUN!!!

Winston Churchill once said “Success is going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm”. We have all been faced with hardships in our lives that we find are too difficult to overcome. However, with the right mindset and determination one can find that those so called failures become nothing more than concrete reinforcements. When enthusiasm is evident even through failure it is a demonstration of thriving inner drive (ID). An individual’s ID plays a significant role in how they view the world in terms of the past, the present and future. Our ID shapes our dreams, goals and ambitions – it allows us to reach a level of success we never thought was possible. This year TRMC will focus on how local entrepreneurs, business leaders and mainstream executives used their inner drive to become the success they are today. We will explore how they made it to the top tier, what motivated them beyond their call of action and how they used their failures as positive motivation. We will also take a look at how companies have been able to instil technological devices in order to further the success of their business. As we live in world where technology plays a significant role in our daily lives it would beneficial to see how top executives have used their inner drive to innovate the operations of their business. Introducing The Third Annual Ted Rogers Management Conference, Business Powered by Motivation, Geared by Innovation – what’s your ID? In the spirit of the Holidays, we will be conducting a draw in which two Ryerson delegates have a chance of winning a FREE ticket to the Conference. Register by December 31, 2011 for a chance to WIN!!!
